Build-a-Bot Camp

Come experience the wonderful world of robotics.  Our Build-a-Bot camp will introduce your child to the field of robotics.  Students will learn about sensors, motors and coding by building and programming LEGO robots in small groups.  They will be challenged to redesign their robot to complete a series of challenges throughout the week.  Other activities will include exploring the world of robotics with robotic arms, building DYI bristle bots, making a robot hand.   The highlight of the week will be building their own OWI kit robot that they will take home.  This camp fulfills some of the key requirements for the BSA Robotics merit badge and the Girl Scout series robotics badges. This camp is engineered for students entering second grade and up.

Your instructor Mr. Kilbane is scout leader and a veteran STEM teacher.  He has been writing and running STEM camps for over 20 years and just completed his 11th season as a FIRST Robotics Competition mentor and coach.

Space Exploration

3… 2… 1… Lift Off!   This camp will launch your imagination into the stars.  We will explore the wonders of our solar system and beyond as we learn about the planets, moons, comets, asteroids and stars.  Activities will include building a glow in the dark constellation, making your own planisphere to guide your stargazing, a DYI planet to hang in your room and more.  You will learn about the physics of spaceflight by building and flying model rockets that you get to take home to continue your STEM journey. This camp is engineered for students entering second grade and up.  This camp will fulfill some key requirements for the Space Exploration merit badge and Cub Scout NOVA through BSA.

Your instructor Mr. Kilbane is scout leader and a veteran STEM teacher from Tartan High School.  He has been writing and running STEM camps for over 20 years, has been a member and regular STEM teacher with the Minnesota Astronomical Society and has a level 2 Certification in high power rocketry though Tripoli.

Flight School (coming 2025)

Prepare for takeoff as you get ready to all about flight.  We will explore the early days of flight as inventors like Leonardo DaVinci dreamed about ornithopters, helicopters, and parachutes.  You will get to design your own flying machine to test in our vertical wind tunnel.  Discover how we finally slipped the bonds of earth as the Montgolfier became the first to fly with their hot air balloon.  Explore the history and future of lighter than air craft like the U.S.S Akron and U.S.S  Macon that operated as flying aircraft carriers and  tragedy of the Hindenburg.   We will make gliders and learn about the experiments of Otto Lilienthal and how his work inspired the Wright brothers.  Speaking of the Wright brothers, did you know that their obsession with flying was started with a simple toy.  Throughout the week we will explore the lives of aviation pioneers such as Glen Curtiss,  Louis Blériot, Amelia Earhart , Blanche “Betty” Stuart Scott, Eileen Collins and many more.
